At Comerio Homes, we are committed to building high-quality, energy-efficient homes that not only offer exceptional comfort and performance but also contribute to a more sustainable future. Our dedication to energy efficiency is reflected in our adoption and use of best-in-class building practices, as it relates to energy efficiency, and the innovative features and technologies we incorporate into every home. Energy efficient homes are the key to green living, providing better home comfort, and lower utility costs.

Here’s a look at some of the energy-efficient practices and products that we use…

HERS RATING

Every Comerio home is inspected by a certified HERS auditor to ensure we have built the best product possible. Through a series of independent inspections, the audit reveals the energy efficiency of the home, and the home is rated on the HERS Index. The HERS rating number reflects the percentage of energy consumption that the home uses. The lower the HERS number, the more energy efficient the home is.

The average home has a HERS rating of 100, while our homes tend to have HERS ratings in the low 60s, indicating our homes are nearly 40% more energy efficient. Many existing homes in the Kansas City area will have HERS ratings in the 120 to 130 range.

An example of one of our HERS ratings below indicates the home saves $2,291 annually in comparison to an average existing home.

Through building homes with low HERS scores, Comerio Homes showcases its commitment to energy efficiency and sustainability. The HERS energy efficiency audits can also help homeowners identify areas for improvement and make informed decisions about energy upgrades to save them even more on energy costs.

R-50 Attic Insulation

We use R-50 insulation in our homes, unlike other builders who use R-38 insulation to ensure superior thermal performance, minimizing heat lost and reducing energy costs. Our homeowners can experience lower energy bills due to reduced HVAC system usage, making your home more cost-effective to live in and creating a comfortable living environment year-round.

Sealing and Air Leak Protection

Our systems are set up to maintain your home’s air pressure, filter out unwanted particles–thereby enabling savings on energy costs and expenses. We also tape HVAC ductwork joints to prevent air loss.

Our homes are air-sealed with caulk and expandable foam prior to the installation of drywall. This prevents any air leaks in the building envelope to prevent heat loss or entry of hot air in the summer. We also install a house wrap vapor barrier between the structural sheathing and all exterior veneers giving the exterior of the home more cooling absorption and warmth-retaining qualities.

Low-E Windows – With Argon Glass

Comerio homes feature Low-E windows filled with Argon gas, ensuring your home stays warm in the winter and cool in the summer–reducing your energy costs. It also protects against UV fading of furniture and/or decor.

92% Efficiency Furnace and 14 SEER AC Units

We use furnaces with AFUEs of 92% and 14 SEER AC units which have significant impacts on the money you save on heating and cooling your home. This level of efficiency reduces energy consumption, leading to lower utility bills for our homeowners, and is a key to ensuring our homes are energy conscious.

Advanced Programmable Thermostats

Advanced programmable, or smart, thermostats allow homeowners to set and control their home’s heating and cooling temperature settings from their “smart” devices (phone, tablet, or computer). Smart thermostats offer greater convenience, energy savings, environmental protection, and control over regular, non-programmable thermostats.

LED Lighting

We include energy-efficient LED light bulbs in our homes, along with motion sensors in some rooms.

Water Efficiency

We build each home with an energy-efficient water heater. Our plumbing fixtures have water-saving features like low-flow toilets and aerated faucets to reduce water consumption and waste. Our homebuyers will experience lower water bills because of its energy-efficient features.

Energy Star Rated Appliances

To enhance energy performance, Comerio Homes includes Energy Star-rated appliances in our builds. These appliances are recognized for their exceptional energy efficiency, helping to reduce energy consumption and lower utility bills over time.
